DC-EC

Design, run and finance a district cooling system in one console

DC-EC simulates a plant hour by hour for a full year, checks the chilled-water network, and appraises the concession. Every study works from the same saved cases.

Replay the plant like a SCADA room

Step through any hour of the year and see what the plant is doing: chiller modules, cooling towers, hydraulics and thermal storage, with six control philosophy modes.

  • Plant efficiency in kW/TR, hour by hour
  • Network return ΔT degradation, and how storage bridges it
  • Thermal storage charge and discharge through the day

See where the head goes

Lay out the network and follow supply and return head along the governing path. Watch pump speed, head and flow respond to the load, with every station checked for unserved cooling.

  • Pump head and speed, hour by hour
  • The governing ETS, and the excess pressure each PICV absorbs
  • A warning when return head exceeds the storage water level and risks overspill

Five missions, one source of physics

Pick the assignment you are working on. Each study links to saved plant cases and a network case, so the numbers agree from the first screen to the final report.

  1. 01

    Master plan feasibility

Consultant to a master or community developer

Is district cooling better than air-cooled, water-cooled or VRF, and what plot and road corridors must be reserved?

    Deliverable
    Executive master-plan feasibility report

  2. 02

    Design and scheme review

MEP design consultant or EPC engineer

Is the thermal storage percentage workable all year, and does the annual kW/TR meet the target?

    Deliverable
Backed-up design calculations and tender pack

  3. 03

    Expansion assessment

District cooling company or expansion consultant

Can existing plants and pumps absorb the added loads, and what closes the hydraulic deficit?

    Deliverable
    Capacity and hydraulic expansion report

  4. 04

    Operational benchmark

Plant operator or utility technical director

What kW/TR is physically achievable with this equipment, and how far are the actuals from it?

    Deliverable
    Efficiency gap and operating-strategy brief

  5. 05

    Concession appraisal

    Grantor and concessionaire

What tariff meets the target equity IRR, and how sensitive is it to ramp-up and EFLH?

    Deliverable
    Transparent concession report

Appraise a concession from the plant up

Operating cost comes from the plant simulation, and capex and lifecycle overhauls sit in the same model, so the financials start from the engineering.

The tariff solver returns the connection fee, capacity charge and consumption charge that meet your target IRR. Test the result against EFLH sensitivity and a ΔT stress case.

Every rate and lump sum can be edited, so you enter your own project figures. DC-EC is a working engineering tool, not a cost estimator.

Built with MHD

DC-EC is built in collaboration with MHD District Cooling Plants Engineering L.L.C., a district cooling and MEP engineering consultancy working across the UAE and GCC.
